Heroes in the field - Volume 1

In 2019, LTN will focus on the heroes we find in the “field”. There are countless organisations that we deal with daily, who are changing lives and impacting communities. We will take a closer look at those individuals who have decided to give their lives for a cause bigger than themselves, some founders of these organisations, others working alongside visionary leaders who have started these organisations.

One such a person is Annerie du Plooy from the Hero Burn Foundation. As the Founder of the Hero Burn Foundation, Annerie is a Burn Survivor after being involved in a light aircraft accident on the 18th of October 2008 near Lephalale, in which her husband rescued her from the burning wreck.

A Non-Profit Company to support other Burn Survivors and create Burn Awareness, was registered in Loving Memory of Mr Henk Du Plooy (09/06/1977 – 29/10/2008) who selflessly gave his life by shielding her from the flames. Henk sustained 75% 3rd degree severe burns as well as internal burns and passed away eleven days after the accident. Annerie honours the life of her late husband, through the work she does. We want to honour her as a Hero in her own right, as she has dedicated her life to helping burn survivors and their families and to create awareness.

We have had the opportunity to meet Annerie, and her love for people radiates as she cares, heart and soul for those she helps.
